Since Corker didn’t win the Senate race in 1994, he worked as the Commissioner of Finance and Administration for the State of Tennessee. Corker accepted the position after being appointed by Governor Don Sundquist. He was in this position from 1995 to 1996.

From 2001 to 2005, Corker served as the mayor of Chattanooga, Tennessee. He used his business background to better the town as much as he could from a economic point of view. For instance, during Corker’s time as mayor, he oversaw a $120.0-million riverfront renovation project, which rejuvenated the area. In addition, Chattanooga’s river walk was expanded, an aquarium was built in order to bring more tourists into the city, and the Creative Discovery Museum was renovated.

He also focused on bringing jobs to the town by being involved in the development of the Enterprise South Industrial Park in Chattanooga. This is now a 3,000-acre piece of land that is home to a Volkswagen assembly plant. Corker also spent his time as mayor working with local departments to decrease crime rates in the city.

Corker announced in 2004 that he would run for the U.S. Senate again. A seat opened up because Republican Senator Bill First was not running for re-election. Corker ended up winning the seat, and was sworn in during January 2007.

In 2012, Corker ran for re-election and won with approximately two-thirds of the votes. In September 2017, Corker announced that he does not plan to run for re-election in 2018. He said he will retire and spend more his time with his family.

After the trip to Haiti, Corker helped the not-for-profit organization Chattanooga Neighborhood Enterprise (CHE), which provides low-interest home loans and home maintenance education to locals.  Over time, with his success in the business world, Corker wanted to give more of his time for the benefit of others.

In 1999, Corker acquired two real estate companies in Tennessee using his funds from the sale of Bencor. The companies were Osborne Building Corporation and Stone Fort Land Company. It is said that, when Corker initially went into real estate, he was putting more money into the business than he was making. Eventually, Corker turned things around and sold the two businesses off at a profit a few years later.

Trump was not a supporter of this deal, and he plans to void or amend it. Here are two tweets that Trump posted about the Iran deal and Corker:

After Corker announced that he would not be running for re-election as senator, Trump said that he had not endorsed Corker’s re-election bid , and that this is why Corker wasn’t going to run again. Whereas, Corker says that Trump did endorse him, and asked Corker to run for re-election.

Here is another Twitter attack from Trump toward Corker:

This is a common tactic from Trump when someone disagrees with him.

Even though Corker will be stepping out of the political spotlight later, he is not shy about voicing his opinion now. Corker, who has said that the current staff in charge of the White House are part of an “adult day care center,” tweeted the following in response to the attacks from Trump:
